The Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies (DARS) at East Carolina University is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12-month, tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor level.
Organizational Unit Overview (DARS) prepares professionals to help guide others through challenges in life—emotion or mental health concerns, substance use issues, physical illness or disability, relationship issues, life transitions, or career decisions. The department’s programs have strong administrative support, excellent teaching and counseling facilities, and attract quality students interested in serving. Job Duties
The successful candidate will:
Provide shared governance, along with departmental faculty, and coordination of the DARS’ undergraduate program, CACREP accredited graduate programs, and graduate certificate programs, responding to inquiries regarding the overall academic unit;
Represent the department to the College of Allied Health Sciences and other schools and colleges within the university to build collaborative education and research efforts;
Engage in professional development activities for administrators;
Develop budget requests in consultation with the Dean, and is responsible for managing the departmental budget;
Maximize the effective use of all resources for serving students, supporting faculty, and enhancing programs;
Provide mentorship/support for department sponsored operations;
Supervise the work of the faculty, conduct productivity reviews, and make recommendations for promotion and tenure and advancement in rank;
Provide classroom instruction in DARS programs;
Provide or delegate year-round leadership to the operation of the program(s); and
Receive appropriate release time from faculty member responsibilities to administer the academic unit.
Minimum Education/Experience
PhD in Counseling from a CACREP accredited program, or doctoral degree in a closely related field and one-year full time experience as a faculty in a counselor education program.
Experience in securing external grant funding.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Possession of, or eligibility through reciprocity, NC licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor

Ability to promote a collegial department environment to support and encourage tenure track, tenured, and fixed term faculty excellence in teaching, research, and service
Possess knowledge of general academic policies and curriculum issues at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Have the ability to coordinate curriculum development and ensure consistency with university procedures and policies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Leadership experience in state or national professional organizations.
Experience in curriculum and academic program development, assessment, and accreditation.
