MultiCare is seeking candidates to participate in the development and deployment of an innovative hub-and-spoke consultation model. We are deploying a central hub of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry team members to provide consult services through onsite, telepsychiatry and telephonic interventions. The use of the hub-and-spoke delivery design sets the stage for MultiCare to cast a vital behavioral health lifeline to our network of hospitals. This 0.6 FTE consult liaison psychiatrist role will work with a multidisciplinary team of to provide service to 5 locations in the MultiCare Puget Sound region. The goal is to offer a collaborative work environment while serving a broad variety of patients in various inpatient and emergency department settings. The qualified candidate would lead the care team in providing psychiatric consultation-liaison services for patients in the acute care setting and emergency departments through assessments, diagnostics, consultations, and treatment recommendations. This opportunity boasts a Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm schedule. The selected candidate will enhance the quality of patient care within the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry service through the provision of consultative interventions in partnership with the treatment team. Patients are referred to the consult liaison service by the hospitalist teams when a significant behavioral health need is identified. The role of the consult liaison team is to provide care to the patient as well as to provide support and education to the treatment team. Candidates will have the opportunity to treat both adult and geriatric (and occasionally pediatric) psychiatry patients and will need to demonstrate a passion for working with high-risk patients and patients with addictions. Completion of a consultation-liaison psychiatry fellowship or combined residency training in internal medicine and psychiatry is desirable, but not required.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES-Performs thorough and accurate psychiatric assessments on patients requiring psychiatric consultation in the general hospital.-Conducts direct psychiatric patient care for patients residing in hospitals on Single Bed Certification (SBC) status.-Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric patient population including the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify diagnoses and to provide the appropriate treatment.-Make recommendations regarding ordering, collecting, interpreting, and evaluating laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.-Prescribes, recommends and/or employs medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatments and procedures or performs indicated procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policies with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.-Formulates and implements comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence-based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines and in collaboration with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care.-Collaborates with the C/L team to provide case management services including coordination with medical staff, nursing staff and outside providers, formulates the treatment plan along with the clinical team.-Documents in a timely, accurate and concise manner, using proper terminology, on department and MHS forms, adheres to established guidelines.-Provides supervision/collaboration for other members of the C/L team (namely psychiatric ARNPs on the team) -Utilizes teaching/learning principles coupled with an expert clinical knowledge base to provide education to patients, their families, the rest of the C/L team, medical staff, and any trainees on service - Works collaboratively with third party payors, Managed Care companies or other contracted concerns to ensure that quality patient care is maintained and managed with effectiveness and efficiency.-Participates in Performance Improvement activities for the department, actively seeking to promote optimum patient care through participation in designated activities for improved performance, outcome measures and patient satisfaction.-Adheres to MHS Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards.
