Education: Must hold a master's or doctoral degree in: Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Examples of related mental health counseling fields include, but are not limited to Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling. CACREP defines the date when graduates are considered to have graduated from a CACREP accredited program. (Transcript Required) Licensure: Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice mental health counseling, which includes diagnoses and treatment. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements, the following grade specific requirements must also be met. GS-0185-11 grade level: Requires completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of mental health or other social work-related settings, (VA or non-VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. To practice independently in this position the incumbent has an independent clinical social work license from a state. If hired with less than one year of post graduate degree experience or without a license or certification, the social worker would be considered for promotion after obtaining certification or licensure at the independent practice level. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. This can be substituted for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting. Individuals assigned as GS-11 social workers are at the full performance level. A GS-11 social worker has a Master of Social Work Degree granted by a graduate program fully accredited by the council on Social Work Education (CSWE). GS-0101-11 grade level: Require possession of a master's in mental health counseling, or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Examples of related mental health counseling fields include, but are not limited to, Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling; and Marriage and Family Therapy. A doctoral degree in mental health counseling may not be substituted for the master's degree in mental health counseling. Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice mental health counseling, which includes diagnosis and treatment. Have a minimum of at least 1 year post-master's degree mental health counseling experience or a doctoral degree in mental health counseling, or a related field may be substituted for the required 1 year of professional mental health counseling experience. You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments, provide individual and group psychotherapy, clinical case management, and evidence-based interventions/treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds. This requires knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological), and the differential influences of the environment, society, and culture. Independently perform case finding functions and outreach, identifying and screening patients for psychosocial needs. Possess the knowledge and ability to implement treatment modalities, provide counseling and/or psychotherapy for individuals, families and groups. Must independently complete thorough psychosocial assessments to determine the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and/or their families. The incumbent must be able to utilize this assessment in facilitating the Veteran's maximum use of treatment for attainment of the highest level of independence that is possible and practicable. Provide mental health services to PACT patients within the primary care setting. Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team with primary care providers to identify , treat and refer patients appropriate for mental health treatments. Assess psychiatric conditions according to the DSM-5. Incumbent performs both brief assessments for the primary care setting and mental health diagnostic interviews with patients referred to specialty mental health clinics. Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the Veteran/family and with the interdisciplinary treatment team within established time frames, identifying the Veteran's strengths, needs, abilities and preferences. Incumbent possesses the skills to offer psychosocial interventions and measure outcomes of interventions. Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial interventions/treatments with supervision, as needed, to a wide variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds using the PCMHI model of brief therapy. This requires knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological), and the differential influences of the environment, society, and culture. Physical Requirements: This position requires minimal physical exertion, light lifting (under 15 lbs), light carrying (under 15 lbs), working closely with others and working alone. The employee will use a computer to access the medical record for entry and retrieval of information. The employee will need to be able to hear conversational speech. Hearing aid permitted. Secondary to PCMHI duties, incumbent will provide services in the General Mental Health-Outpatient Clinic. Duties and frequency of time spent within the General Mental Health Clinic will vary and is dependent upon patient care/service line needs.
