Supervisory Social Worker has significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to medium size professional staff. They are responsible for the professional and administrative management of homeless program at the Altoona VAMC and CBOC's. The incumbent in this position functions as the Altoona VA Medical Center's Supervisor for the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program. The incumbent in this position functions as the Altoona VA Medical Center's Supervisor for the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership and front line supervision to all staff of the HCHV Program, as well as monitoring and coordinating services provided by the HCHV Program. Components of the HCHV Program include Homeless Outreach, Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supported Housing (HUD-VASH), Grant and Per Diem (GPD), Compensated Work Therapy (CWT), Veterans Justice Outreach (VJO) and other components of the comprehensive Homeless Programs. The incumbent will also provide direct clinical services and will also have program coordination responsibilities. This position works in close collaboration with other Mental Health Social Work (MH SW) Supervisor and the Social Work Executive as well as other members of the mental health and primary care teams. Incumbent will provide afterhours consultation on a rotation basis with other GS-12 Supervisory and social work management staff. Incumbent will provide coverage for social work management as needed. Social Work Supervisors must be licensed at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for subordinate staff to qualify for licensure. The incumbent assumes the supervisory and administrative responsibility for the management of the assigned social workers who function within the HCHV Program located at the Altoona VAMC and CBOC's. As the supervisor, the incumbent assists in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing the Social Work staff of the assigned programs. The incumbent will assure the Social Workers whom they supervise are aware of, adhere to all current directives of VHA, and meet current Joint Commission (TJC) and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilitates (CARF) standards, state licensure standards, and VA-OIG expectations. The incumbent will conduct ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies. In carrying out responsibilities, operation of a motor vehicle with a valid driver's license is required. The incumbent must meet the requirements to use a government vehicle in accordance with VHA directive 2008-020. It may be necessary for the incumbent to travel throughout the Altoona VAMC catchment area where he/she conducts interviews with the Veterans, family members, representatives of community health, welfare and law enforcement agencies.
