The Birmingham VA Medical Center located in Southside downtown Birmingham, Alabama is actively seeking a board certified or board eligible Staff Radiologist with experience and special training in interventional radiology. Certificate of added qualification (CAQ) or equivalent training in interventional radiology required. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA Policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until June 30, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 8 March, 2021, with subsequent cut-off dates weekly. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. The full-time radiologist will provide patient care in the hospital setting to inpatients and outpatients and should be comfortable administering treatment and interpreting examinations as follows: diagnostic angiography, angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, embolization, radiofrequency or other forms of ablation, chemo-embolization, drainages, biliary and urinary procedures, spine procedures such as vertebroplasties and kyphoplasties. This radiologist should be experienced in and will perform and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic lumbar punctures and myelograms and CT myelograms. The Interventional Radiologist is also responsible for general radiology practice including interpreting general diagnostic radiology, diagnostic computed tomography, and diagnostic ultrasound. This Radiologist will also evaluate and perform fluoroscopic diagnostic exams and perform and interpret minimally invasive diagnostic radiological procedures such as core or fine needle biopsies of chest, abdomen, spine and musculoskeletal organs or lesions, fine needle aspirates of head and neck lesions, joint injections, aspirations, and arthrograms, as well as joint and peri-neural injections for pain control and therapeutic and diagnostic thoracentesis and paracentesis. There is currently no Pediatric imaging. Candidate should have training and experience in radiation safety, radiation physics, biological effects of radiation and radiation injury prevention. Current experience, up-to-date procedure skills as well as excellent diagnostic clinical skills are required. We are affiliated with the University of Alabama in Birmingham and teaching of medical students and residents is an integral part of the position, active participant in resident noon lectures, morning reports, including case presentations and other educational activities is required. Applicant should have current resident teaching experience. Candidate must be eligible for teaching appointment at the academic affiliate in order to be considered; some research experience preferred. Our department boasts state of the art imaging equipment in every area. The candidate should be comfortable with a fully integrated PAC system and voice recognition system. Position also includes coordinating patient care by effective communication with Primary Care practitioners at local and remote locations. The incumbent will be highly visible and accessible to all customers. The incumbent will perform the duties of this position in addition to other responsibilities as developed or agreed upon. Candidate must have or obtain ACLS certification. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 830AM to 5PM On-call rotation is required. General call duties are shared by the group; interventional call coverage planned in near future. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
