JOB SUMMARY: To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the surgeon, diagnostics and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his/her services through the more effective use of his/her knowledge in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. He/she may assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the surgeon. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area. Additionally, the advanced provider will act as the patient advocate in the medical care systems serving as confidant, advisor, and liaison between patients and physicians. Reports directly to the surgeon for all patient-care-related functions. Charting privileges will be determined by the Procedure and Medical Records Committee as recommended by the surgeon. Deals directly with the medical staff members, nursing personnel and other departments to coordinate patient care requirements. WORKING CONDITIONS: Clinical: Inpatient/Outpatient/OR Travel as indicated Participation in the holiday/weekend/call schedule as indicated EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: The successful Physician Assistant candidate will work under the responsibility and supervision of the physician and require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification or eligibility and Pennsylvania State licensure. The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA. Satisfactorily completed formal training as surgical assistant or currently hold a position which commands comparable respect by virtue of equivalent work experience and training.
